Derek left his 'Rabbit Hill' days and Albertan ski racing roots in 1995 to get a piece of Whistler's mind-blowing terrain, and he's been here ever since. He coached ski racing until 2000, before creating the kids Freeride program for Whistler/Blackcomb which is growing every year with Whistler up'n coming rippers.
All the while he's been ski touring throughout the Whistler and Pemberton areas and has some plans brewing for more epic descents in future.
Derek and several other Extremely Canadian coaches were mentioned in SBC Skier Magazine's "Canadian Freeskiers You Should Know" article.
